House rules
The rules
The universal rulebook for every Coding Cabana jam. Individual jams add their own round rules on top — you'll find those on each jam's page.
Who can enter
- Anyone may enter, whatever your skill level.
- You'll need a free itch.io account to submit, and you must be a member of the Cabana Discord server.
- You must be at least 13 years old to participate. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should be aware and consent where the law requires it.
- One person, one identity — you may only enter a jam once, under a single account.
Teams
- Enter solo or in a team of up to three people.
- You can be an active member of only one team per jam.
- Prizes are awarded once per team, for the team to distribute among its members.
- Team submissions must list every member and their role. Solo entries can skip this.
Deadlines & submissions
- Jams run strictly within their posted start and end times. All times are UTC.
- The submission deadline is hard: the portal locks automatically, and late entries aren't accepted.
- One submission — one game — per person or team, per jam.
- After the deadline, only game-breaking bugs may be fixed, and only with prior approval. Request it through the Contact page before touching anything. No fixes at all after the first two days of the voting period.
What you can build
- Previously released games aren't eligible. You may continue an in-progress game only if it's relevant to the jam's theme and concept, unless a jam states otherwise.
- Reusing a substantial pre-built project of your own that isn't relevant to the jam's theme and concept is not allowed.
- Devlogs are required — post them on itch.io or in the Discord server as you build.
Assets & AI
- AI-generated content is allowed, but it must be disclosed — in-game or in your credits.
Content standards
- No pornographic or sexually explicit content.
Voting & results
- Community voting runs for a set window after submissions close — check the jam page for dates.
- To have your own entry ranked, you must rate a minimum number of other entries.
- Vote manipulation of any kind — brigading, vote-trading, sockpuppet accounts — means disqualification.
- Results are announced on the published date, and rankings are final once posted.
Your game, your rights
- Your game is yours. Once the voting period is over, you're free to keep developing it, publish it, and sell it.
The Cabana clauses
- If your entry is built from an "Adopt a Game" idea, credit the original idea's author.
- Each jam series may add its own structure and rules on top of these universal ones.
- Participation data is handled according to our Privacy Policy.
